Minimally Invasive Dental Implants or Small Diameter Implants allow for placement even when the supporting bone has deteriorated and diminished after the teeth have been lost. The implant fits the available bone, instead of trying to make the bone fit the implant.

We are often asked, “How are Mini Implants different than other implants?” and, “Are Mini implants permanent?”

Of course Minimally Invasive Implants are “PERMANENT!” This question comes up because they were first used some 40 years ago as temporary implants to anchor dentures so that patients had something to eat and speak with while ‘Conventional’ implants were healing during the 6-to-12 month period before

they are usable. It became apparent quickly that these MINI IMPLANTS performed remarkably well, and in fact were difficult to remove when the “temporary” period was over. And so a new implant treatment method was born!

Minimally Invasive Implants are less than 3mm in diameter, Conventional Surgical Implants are 3mm or larger. Mini Implants are placed without incisions or stitches, no bone grafting in healed sites, with only local anesthetic in just minutes, and can be used immediately. Conventional Surgical Implants usually requires surgery, stitches, usually bone grafting, and almost always a second surgery 6 to 12 months later to add the ‘abutment’ to make the implant finally usable. This is a much longer and more involved process for the patient, AND, it costs about twice as much for the same result. Mini Implants can be used carefully, immediately after placement and are fully integrated in 6-8 WEEKS. In most cases Conventional Implants are not ready for ANY use for 6-12 MONTHS. Mini Implants are a paradigm shift in modern dental implant treatment. They are quicker, easier, and more affordable than alternatives.
